Can you get a FHA Mortgage
With a Low Credit Score?

Our recent recession left many otherwise responsible people with low credit scores. If you have bad credit for whatever reason, you may be surprised to find out that you can still qualify for an FHA mortgage with a credit score as low as 580! Of course, the better your score, the better the loan terms you will be eligible for, but FHA loans are available to prospective home buyers with low or damaged credit.

Generally, mortgage loans can be underwritten to borrowers with credit scores between 500 and about 580 for up to about 90% of the loan-to-value of the property you are interested in. For prospective borrowers with scores above 580, you may be able to qualify for a mortgage for with just 3.5% down, and you can even use a gift from a family member for those funds.
